"in
Lowarengak mankind has succeeded in putting up a slum in the midst of
the desert" |
Lowarengak
village was originally established in 1968 as a fishing camp by the northern
shore
of
Lake Turkana
to resettle the people of the famine camp at Kaleng.
From its small beginnings, Lowarengak soon grew into one of the larger
famine camps in the district. An early report succinctly describes that “in
Lowarengak mankind has succeeded in putting up a slum in the midst of the
desert.”
